How to Tell When You Should Live Without a Roommate
Sometimes, choosing a
good friend to be your roommate isn’t enough. It may be that you’re simply the
type of person who prefers to live alone. The problem is that it can be
difficult to know this when it’s your first time living away from home. You may
decide to try one year in McMaster
University housing, but if tension builds up, you should
probably live without a roommate in the future.
You
Never Bring Anyone Home
You should feel
comfortable entertaining friends at home and bringing dates back. If you do
neither, it may be because you struggle to feel completely at ease when your
roommate is close by.
You
Argue About Chores
It may be that one of
you is messy, whereas the other is super organized. Alternatively, it may be
that you are just unable to agree on whose turn it is to do a particular chore.
If this is becoming a constant source of arguments, you need to consider
parting ways.
You
Can’t Stand Waiting for the Bathroom
Ideally, you’d like to
be able to spend as much time in the bathroom as you want, whenever you want.
If you live with a roommate, this is impossible. The situation is even worse if
you have to share a bathroom with even more people.
You’re
Sick Of Your Roommate’s Noise
You may normally enjoy
playing music at full volume. Your roommate may not even be particularly loud.
If you find yourself cringing every time your roommate starts listening to
tunes or has a conversation on the phone, what is actually bothering you is
your lack of control over the noise level.
You
Spend Hours Away from Home
You shouldn’t be
spending all of your time in your room. However, it’s a bad sign if you plan to
leave whenever you know that you’ll roommate will be around.
You’re
Thrilled When Your Roommate Goes Away
The announcement that
your roommate is leaving for the weekend should not be the best news you
receive all week. If you enjoy being alone that much, it would be better for
you to live without a roommate.
If the above is true
for you, should move off campus and start looking for Apartments for
Rent in Hamilton, Ontario. However, renting on your own can
be expensive — not to mention lonely. To cut costs, choose West Village Suites.
You’ll receive your own private bedroom but still live around other students.
